2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Marion County finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Marion County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region five with a 2-4 region record. Marion County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Red Raiders want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.8 points a game. The Red Raiders would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Marion County has gone a combined 53-33. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Marion County has managed to compile a record of 158-129. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A and 131st in the AHSAA. The Red Raiders are led by head coach Kyle Williams who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Marion County. The Red Raiders have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Williams. Coach Williams' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%). The Marion County Red Raiders will play in Class 1A region five during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Red Raiders could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Marion County missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017. The Red Raiders open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Sulligent on Friday, August 25 at Brown Stadium. Last year the Sulligent Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region eight. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Tanner by a score of 42-14. Marion County and Sulligent have met a total of 68 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 22-41-5 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2016 with Sulligent winning by a score of 34-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
